Set Network Name to Same as Original (Xiaomi WiFi Repeater)

If you want your Xiaomi WiFi Repeater to broadcast the exact same Wi-Fi name (SSID) and password as your main router, you can enable the “same as original network” option in the repeater settings. This is useful because your phone, laptop, or smart TV will treat the repeater like an extension of your existing Wi-Fi instead of a separate network.

When this setting is enabled:

The repeater will use the same SSID (network name) as your main Wi-Fi.
The repeater will use the same password as your main Wi-Fi.
You will not see a separate “extender” Wi-Fi name (like Home_EXT)—it will look like the same network.

Why Use the Same SSID and Password?

Enabling this option is recommended when you want a smoother experience moving around your home/office:

Easier connection: You only need to connect to one Wi-Fi name.
Automatic switching: Your device will usually stay on the stronger signal as you move (router when you’re close, repeater when you’re far).
Cleaner Wi-Fi list: No extra duplicate network names showing up.

✅ Important: The switching behavior depends on the device (phone/laptop). Some devices “stick” to a weak signal longer before jumping to the repeater.

Steps to Set Repeater Network Name Same as Original

Step 1: Open the Xiaomi / Mi WiFi Repeater App

Power on your Xiaomi WiFi Repeater and wait until it is fully connected.
Open the Mi WiFi / Xiaomi WiFi Repeater app on your phone.
Select your repeater from the device list (if the app shows more than one).

Step 2: Go to the Repeater Settings Screen

On the repeater control page, you will see multiple options (often labeled as Option 1, Option 2, etc.).

Look for Option 1 (as shown in your reference image).
This option is usually related to the repeater’s Wi-Fi name settings—specifically whether it should copy the original network name.

Step 3: Enable Option 1 (Same as Original Network)

Turn ON the toggle in front of Option 1.
Once enabled, the repeater will automatically match:
- SSID (Wi-Fi name)
- Password

This means:

You will no longer connect to a “separate” repeater network.
Your device will connect to the same SSID whether it is receiving signal from the router or the repeater.

Step 4: Save/Apply the Settings

After switching on the toggle:

Tap Save / Apply / Confirm (depending on the app wording).
The repeater may briefly restart or reconnect to apply the change.
Wait 10–30 seconds for it to finish.

What You Will Notice After Enabling This Setting

✅ Only One Network Name Will Appear

Your Wi-Fi list will show only your original router SSID, not a second extender SSID.

✅ Repeater Will Be Used Only When Needed

Your phone/laptop will generally:

connect to the router when you are near it and signal is strong
connect to the repeater when you move farther away and the router signal becomes weak/unreachable

That’s why it may seem like nothing changed at first—because the Wi-Fi name stays the same.

Important Notes / Troubleshooting

1) “It still connects to the router even when repeater is closer”

This can happen because many devices prefer to stay connected to the first access point they joined until the signal becomes very weak.

Fix:

Turn Wi-Fi off and on again on your phone, or
Disconnect and reconnect to the Wi-Fi network.

2) If your Wi-Fi disappears briefly

This is normal while the repeater applies the new SSID settings. Just wait a moment and refresh your Wi-Fi list.

3) Best placement still matters

Even with the same SSID, the repeater must be placed where it can receive a strong signal from the router (not too far away), otherwise performance will be slow.
