Use this guide to connect the Xiaomi Wifi Repeater to an existing Wi-Fi network, place it for extended coverage, and adjust basic network settings. The general flow also applies to the Xiaomi Mi WiFi Repeater Pro, although power connections, indicator wording, and app screens may vary by model or app version.

Open the Xiaomi Home app and complete the initial terms, privacy, and permission screens that are required for device setup.
The original setup flow used the app's region setting before device discovery. Region availability can vary, so use a region compatible with your repeater and Xiaomi account rather than assuming the same region is required for every unit.
Complete the requested phone permissions that are needed for device discovery and setup.
Sign In and Add the Repeater
Sign in to your Xiaomi account. If you do not already have an account, use the account-creation option provided in the app.
From the app home screen, choose the option to add a device. If the app requests Bluetooth access or asks you to turn Bluetooth on for discovery, follow the prompt.
Connect to Your Wi-Fi

Basic Setup Checks

If the app still cannot detect the repeater, the reset control can return it to its setup state. The existing setup flow uses a pin in the reset hole or the model's reset button for about 5 seconds before attempting the connection again.
Finish Device Setup
After the repeater is added successfully, Xiaomi Home may ask you to assign it to a room such as a living room, bedroom, or dining room. You can also rename the device. In the original app flow, its default device label was shown as Wi-Fi amplifier.
Complete the final app screen to begin using the repeater. On supported models, the status light turns blue after successful configuration.
Extended Wi-Fi Name
In the setup described here, the repeater creates an extended network using the original Wi-Fi name followed by _plus. For example, a network named HomeWiFi may appear as HomeWiFi_plus.
If Wi-Fi roaming is available in your repeater settings, it can be used to give the extended network the same network name as the main Wi-Fi network.

The repeater interface can show devices connected through its extended network. In the described app interface, device details include MAC addresses and IP information.
The interface described in the original setup does not provide controls for blocking individual connected devices or limiting their internet speed. Available management options may differ with later app or product versions.
Placement After Setup
- Configure the repeater near the main router first.
- Move it only after the initial connection has completed successfully.
- Place it where it can still receive a reliable signal from the main router while extending coverage toward the weaker area.
- If the connection becomes unreliable after moving it, position the repeater closer to the router.
