Change SSID, Password, or Hide SSID (Xiaomi Mi WiFi Repeater)
To update your WiFi Repeater name (SSID), change its password, or hide the network so it doesn’t appear in the Wi-Fi list, follow the steps below.

Step 1: Open the Mi WiFi / Xiaomi Repeater App
-
Make sure your phone is connected to the repeater (or at least connected to the same network the repeater is using).
-
Open the Mi WiFi / Xiaomi WiFi Repeater management app.
-
Select your repeater device from the device list (if you have more than one).
Step 2: Go to the Settings Page
On the main repeater screen, you will see a few menu options (usually numbered or listed).
Tap on option 2 (the one shown in the reference image above). This option typically opens the repeater’s configuration/settings page.

Step 3: Open SSID & Password Settings
After tapping option 2, you’ll be taken to a page similar to the screenshot referenced below. This is where you can edit the repeater’s Wi-Fi broadcasting settings.
You will usually see:
-
Field 1: SSID (Wi-Fi Name)
-
This is the Wi-Fi name your repeater broadcasts.
-
You can rename it to something easier to recognize (example:
Home_ExtenderorLivingRoom_WiFi). -
Tip: Avoid special characters if some devices have trouble connecting.
-
-
Field 2: Password
-
This is the password required to connect to the repeater’s Wi-Fi.
-
Enter a new password if you want to secure your network or if you suspect someone else has access.
-
Tip: Use a strong password (at least 8 characters, ideally a mix of letters and numbers).
-
Step 4: Hide the SSID (Optional)
Below the SSID and password fields, you will see a toggle switch.
-
If you turn ON the “Hide SSID” toggle:
-
Your repeater Wi-Fi name will not appear in the list of available networks on phones, laptops, TVs, etc.
-
This improves privacy slightly (people won’t easily see your network name), but it does not replace a strong password.
-
✅ Important note:
When SSID is hidden, you must manually add the Wi-Fi network on devices you want to connect by entering:
-
the SSID (exact Wi-Fi name)
-
the password
Most devices will have an option like “Add Network / Join Hidden Network” in the Wi-Fi settings.
Step 5: Save and Reconnect
-
After making changes, tap Save / Apply / Confirm (wording may vary).
-
The repeater may briefly restart or reconnect to apply the settings.
-
Once applied:
-
If you changed the SSID: connect to the new Wi-Fi name
-
If you changed the password: connect using the new password
-
If you hid the SSID: manually add the network on your device
